Note: The following Twitter Facts are based on the presentation available at Website Monitoring Blog. There’s a lot more information at their blog, if you’re interested.
Twitter Facts:
- Twitter has 175 employees.
- Thousands of developers have created more than 70,000 apps using Twitter API.
- There are more than 106 Million accounts on Twitter and that number grows by 300,000 every day.
- 180 Million unique visitors generate more than 3 Billion requests each day.
- Twitter users send 55 Million tweets per day, which equals 640 tweets per second!
- Thursday and Friday are the most active days.
.Here’s where it really gets interesting!
- Only 20% have tweeted 10 or more times.
- 41% have not tweeted since they created their account.
- 27% of messages are private conversations.
- 30% are what they’re doing.
- 10% are links to news and blog articles. (wonder if that went up with the challenge!)
- 6% are politics, sports or current events.
- 4% are product recommendations or complaints.
- 4% is spam (hard to believe that’s all!)
- 4% are advertisements.
- 61% are English.
.In the U.S:
- 55% are Female.
- 45% are Male.
- 45% are 18-34 years old.
- 24% are 35-49 years old.
- 14% are 50+
- 18% are 17 and under.
This is not only interesting (in my opinion) but it’s also excellent social marketing information.
I didn’t find anything that specified how much time the average Twitter user spends there, though (if there is such a thing as an average user). How much time do you fritter away on Twitter per day or week?
