Yesterday I wrote about YouTube and it’s wildly popular platform. (Got A YouTube Strategy?) When you think about trying to capture a share of their audience, you might think it would be impossible because of the extreme competition.

Don’t be afraid of competition, number one.  Number two, take advantage of it… I’ll show you how.

First, pick your very best keyword.  For example, I chose WordPress.

Next, create a YouTube Channel using that keyword in the name, such as I did with “WordPress Insider.” I signed up for a channel this morning.  I’m starting a new one so we can do this together (if you’re interested in joining in).

If you don’t know how to create a channel, here’s a video.

If you’re not sure about which keywords to use for your channel, use the Google Keyword Tool. This tool will help you find the best keywords to use in your channel keyword list also.

You can create a channel with your own videos or no videosI’m going to talk to those that don’t have videos because if you do have them, you probably have your channel already (but you’ll definitely want to know the next step that I have in store).

Whether you have your own content or not, I suggest that you populate your channel using OPV (Other Peoples Videos) based on your keyword. Just search YouTube for related videos.  Create a Playlist on your channel and add videos you find that you like. (If you don’t know how to create a playlist, here’s a video.) I suggest that you choose good videos but not ones that are in direct competition with you.

Important: The videos you choose should be of interest to your prospect base. I chose recently created videos (2010) considering how often WordPress is updated.  Older videos might still be of use, but the more current, the better in my case.

I’ve added 12 videos to my playlist so far. Here’s my channel playlist, WordPress Insider.

You’re probably wondering why I’m suggesting that you add OPVs to your channel.  That’s a good question and I have an even better answer.  This is to get you up and running very fast and make your channel a great resource for your prospects. Serving your prospects with information they’re looking for all in one place is an excellent strategy.  You’ll earn respect and trust.

The goal is to add YouTube to your lead generation efforts. You’ll be able to say, “Hey there! I’ve got this great channel over here that features current WordPress How To videos.  I search them out for you frequently and you can easily find them here.  If you ever need to learn how to do something on WordPress, you’ll want to come here first and save time.  Simply subscribe and become my friend!”

Tomorrow I’ll let you know my secret on how to get tons of subscribers and friends easily and quickly.  I’m talking with very little effort.  In fact, you can ethically and legally get them while you sleep!

How would you like to see hundreds of friends and subscribers within a few days — all interested in your niche, on your YouTube Channel? I thought so.

Stay tuned! My next post will be even more interesting.
