As far as we let them take it…
In fact, according to FightForTheFuture.org/ the government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. “Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.”
They even tried to take down a video off YouTube that showed a toddler dancing to a copyrighted tune. This bill can easily go far beyond what you might think. Your site or blog could even be shut down because of a comment made on a post! After all, you would be responsible.

Have you heard about this yet? What do you think?

Sometimes I am sick of the double standard. Youtube is protected from the consequences of facilitating blatant piracy but a John Doe could lose everything for posting the same video on his site – I just don’t think it is fair.

I really hope that this bill doesn’t get passed. I’m astounded that it was even considered in the first place. Of course piracy is a problem but this is no way to fix it and it will only cause problems to the innocent internet user. Good to see the outcry over GoDaddy’s initial support of the bill and now companies like Sony and Nintendo are also withdrawing support.

SOPA is insane! I’m totally on the other side of it! The government is not really helping the people. If this crazy stuff will go through, many,MOST of the people in the internet world would easily loss their jobs in just a click. so NO to IP Protect/SOPA bill!

This a selfish bill aiming to kill industries around the web. Totally opposed SOPA! This is not for protection, maybe they are aiming for their commission$.
SOPA could be misused, or misapplied as in this case. I don’t advocate piracy but I’m not in favor of these kind of restrictions.
This is ridiculous, big companies will only get richer and those that are so innocent gets shut down. At first, the bill was good and has a good intention but i am not sure if there are no hidden motives in that bill. I just hope it won’t go too far.

I’m not really sure who is behind these crazy bills but their agenda is sort of scary if you ask me! Thanks for the heads up Deb. Happy New Year. John. Oh I just twitted this to my over 8,000 followers as well!

I have not heard about this yet. I can understand the concern though. What if someone’s video went viral and got a lot of exposure due to the use of someone else’s material.
Absolutely, Passionately and Utterly against SOPA!
This is getting ridiculous! What is the Internet all about if not sharing and spreading content?

At this point, Deb, it sounds like you could be in trouble for simply posting this information!
“Less security and less stability” scares the pants off me!!
Let’s face it …
Any time the government gets their mitts into something this CRITICAL, we’re usually in for a bad ride.
Whatever happened to freedom of speech and artistic freedom and all the other freedoms we’re supposed to be experiencing?!
Guess the government intends to flush all that down the toilet. I had a strong feeling they were going to step in at some point and do their best to make everyone’s life on the internet a living hell.

I’ve read that giant websites like Wikipedia will participate and will black out their pages for several hours or a day this January 18 in protest for SOPA/PIPA.
Almost hundreds of other sites will participate too, I just hope this will work and the US congress would give attention to the public’s voice worldwide.
I noticed the Wiki blackout today as well as quite a few of the blogs I go too that have also joined the protest. I hope this catches the attention of the government and makes them realize it’s not worth giving in the media companies at the cost of angering so many netizens.

I’ve also visited reddit and there’s a note there saying they will black out for 12hrs in support SOPA/PIPA protest. I know there are hundreds of sites who participated this Jan.18 Internet Black out Day,and I hope this will work! No to SOPA/PIPA!

SOPA and PIPA will crush the rights of the ordinary netizens and small online businesses. This legislation somehow show that if you’re not one of the big players, then you have no right to share things online. It’s horrible!
