With crowdfunding you can finally do what you love to do!
Introducing my latest site! I, along with my two partners, have just launched a new crowdfunding site, CrowdFundingLIVE.com. I’m the web developer / partner and believe me when I say building this site was a real challenge and a whole lotta work. I faced what seemed like overwhelming odds nearly every day for the past three (or so) months but…
I absolutely love my new site and what it will do for people.
The Challenges
Crowdfunding is so “new” online, relatively speaking, merchant account providers are not ready for it. Getting approval to accept funds freely given on behalf of idea people and entrepreneurs is much more difficult than you might think. (And we have a pledge site, not equity.)
If you’re considering building a crowdfunding site or putting a crowdfunding function on your current site, good luck with that! The best advice I can offer is “persevere” (or hire me!). It CAN be done.
The merchant account wasn’t the only problem to overcome though. It was also the “how to get this all to work” that was so overwhelming. I thought I had solution after solution, only to find it would only work on a limited basis. I contacted plugin developers to no avail. No one seemed to want to touch it. So I had to figure it out myself.
Success!
The site is live and has five projects on it so far (with five more to be ready soon). One is being actively marketed right now (and raising funds!) and I think it’s a great one. Let me tell you a bit about it.
I’m extremely pleased to announce our first official project is by the co-producer / writer of one of my all time favorite independent films, “What the Bleep Do We Know.” Betsy Chasse is raising funds for her new independent film.
If you’re familiar with What the Bleep, you will have an idea of what her new film will be like. Only this time it’s not so much “talking heads” as it is a story — with a message — and very funny.
Having had many communications with Betsy while setting up her project (yes, we actually help!) I can tell you what a lovely, hard-working, dedicated and fabulous person she is. She deserves support for her project and we’re happy to help her raise it. Oh, and crowdfunding campaigns are about much more than just the money. The show of support (through funding or spreading the word or leaving a supportive comment for her) means a lot.
Doing what I love
I’ll tell you this. I’ve built a lot of websites in the past 10+ years. I’ve worked with a lot of people with a wide variety of endeavors, but nothing has come close to the pure excitement and satisfaction as building this particular site and working with such fabulous people, from my partners to the idea people coming to the site. I LOVE it!
They say “do what you love and the money will come.” Well we’ll see about that but the most important thing is do what you love and you won’t feel like you’re working. That I agree with.
By the way, I’m still a web developer taking on clients. I am not off the market. So if you need help with a website of any size, simple or complex, contact me. After all, I do need to make a living! I will only make a small percentage of successful crowdfunding projects and so far I’ve earned less than $40 for my three + months of hard work! (LOL)

I love you, too!
Smooches, partner!
Woot Woot! Congratulations! I know how hard you worked on the site and I’m happy to hear it’s up and running. More than that I”m super glad your first project is the writer and producer of What the Bleep. I love the film too.
Wishing you many, many, many successful projects. I’m on my way over to check it out.

ya really great post. That is a extremely useful blog. Usually these things repeat stuff as posted on thousands of different blogs, however I very found this useful. I’ve already put in the recent comment widget (inside seconds of reading regarding it on here). Initial rate. Thanks.

Fantastic concept which is sure to succeed. Crowd Funding is a major new opportunity for anyone with a good idea, dedication, and of course passion to make it without having the funds themselves. Great stuff!
