Twitter for Business – Smart!

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Twitter for BusinessTwitter isn’t just for making connections, using Twitter for business can be very effective (and profitable).

Today Twitter for business is becoming more and more of a tool for executives to build sales (B2B and B2C), as well.

So, what are some effective ways of using Twitter for business that can impact your  sales? Let’s take a look.

Active Branding

Your brand isn’t a passive thing, is it? I hope not. Twitter is (arguably) the only avenue where broadcasting your brand regularly is not only accepted, it’s encouraged wholeheartedly. (I’m not talking spamming, though!)

When you think about it, you know you can’t email your potential clients every day without consequences but you CAN tweet every day — multiple times — keeping your brand in front of potential clients, while actually building rather than diminishing goodwill. That’s smart business!

10 Things I Like About You on Twitter

Twitter etiquette is a good thing! If you want people to follow you back be aware that some things should be done and other things shouldn’t.

Here’s my top ten list of what I look for in a new Twitter follower. Would I follow you back?

1. You have a picture of you.

2. You have a bio that gives me an idea of who you are and what you do.

3. I see that you @reply others, you’re social!

4. You RT (retweet) others.

5. You tweet with value (of interest or timely or funny or nice.)

6. You’ve actually tweeted more than once!

7. You’re not tweeting “how to get thousands of Twitter followers.”

8. There’s not a link in every single tweet.

9. You’re not only posting quotes.

10. You don’t blast out spam!

Everyday I get emails from Twitter letting me know who followed me. I don’t automatically follow back but if you’re real I usually do. However, I actually click on the link and go view your profile before I decide to follow back or not. The list above is basically what I look at to make that decision.

RSSIf you regularly post your blog posts to Twitter and Facebook, why not automate it? Twitter Feed will take your RSS feed, visit it every 30 minutes or so, find updates and automatically post them to Twitter and/or Facebook for you.

You can customize it to post just the title, the description or both. You can even include a thumbnail image on Facebook.

It’s easy to setup and maintain and can save you time, especially if you blog regularly.

Today’s Tutorial Tuesday post walks you through the steps to setup Twitter Feed. Before you start, you need to have an RSS feed already setup, as well as a Twitter account and a Facebook account that you’re logged into.
